Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook P8010

Verdict

Competing with Sony, Lenovo and Apple is no easy task, as this overpriced and unremarkable ultraportable proves.

The extra bulk doesn't bring with it any better performance than the competition either. Its score of 0.66 in our 2D benchmarks is on a par with its competitors, such as the Sony TZ31, which came in just 0.04 slower, and the MacBook Air and Lenovo X300, which were 0.03 and 0.02 faster respectively.

The Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 1.2GHz processor clearly hasn't been chosen with stonking performance in mind, but for its frugal use of power. However, despite the huge 8,700mAh battery, the Fujitsu managed a rather disappointing 5hrs 30mins in our light use tests, dwarfed by the eight hours that the Sony TZ31 lasted.

Despite, this, the Lifebook just about manages to compete with the other contenders to the most-desirable high-end business notebook throne on weight, performance and features, even if it does stumble rather heavily over its thickness and lack of style.

But the price is something we can't ignore: at £1,303 it's significantly more than the both the £1,020 MacBook Air and £1,159 Sony TZ31, and this makes it is very hard to recommend.
