IBM ThinkPad A20m

Verdict

A good combination of battery life and build quality. However, there are better alternatives available for the price.

Review Date: 1 Jul 2000

Price when reviewed: (£2,227 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

In this respect the ThinkPad proved to be acceptable but not notable, running down after a little under three hours of continuous, light use. This is fairly typical of the current crop, but every time I see a notebook that manages significantly better, it makes me wonder why the rest can't match it.

IBM's ThinkPad A20m is an unremarkable offering in its intended market place, with the stunted memory contributing to a wholly unremarkable 2D performance score of 1.75. As a sturdy workhorse, however, you've got pretty much all you could ask for. But unless you particularly favour the IBM brand you could shop around and get a bit more for your money.
