HP OmniBook 500

Verdict

Excellent features and performance, combined with a thoughtful and stylish design

Review Date: 1 Dec 2000

Price when reviewed: (£2,614 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
 stars out of 6

Battery life also seems to be satisfactory, with the OmniBook 500 managing one hour, 14 minutes, before the suspend-to-disk function cut in and the machine lost power. With power management and SpeedStep enabled, the overall battery life should increase to between two and three hours, depending on usage.

First impressions of the OmniBook 500 are very encouraging. There are a few niggles to iron out, but on the whole it's already well polished. Performance is a key area of note and if this is maintained or improved on release, the OmniBook 500 will be a strong contender in the ultra portable market. When you consider that the machine also looks fantastic and offers some excellent features, the OmniBook 500 is a highly impressive machine. This is one I'll look forward to seeing when it hits the high street.
