Medion RIM1000 Ultra Mobile PC

Verdict

The few elements of successful design are marred by a woeful lack of power and poor usability.

Review Date: 21 Jun 2007

Price when reviewed: (£799 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
2 stars out of 6

With the whole purpose of UMPCs being flexibility and do-it-all convenience, the RIM1000 falls at almost every hurdle. Performance is leagues behind what we'd hope for, the screen is limiting and the touchscreen poorly implemented. Even the trackpad is made uncomfortable by the sheer weight and heat of the unit.

Even worse news for the RIM1000 is Samsung's Q1 Ultra (see our video preview at www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/114332), which steps up the UMPC concept considerably with good design, vastly better performance and a much better screen - all for the same price.
