Compaq Armada M700

Verdict

Well made, light, compact and pleasant to use, but hurt by disappointing battery life. For a corporate machine though, this is a decent price.

Review Date: 1 Oct 1999

Price when reviewed: (£2,345 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

The Armada is a reasonable if uninspiring performer for a 366MHz Pentium II notebook and would get an immediate boost by increasing the rather ungenerous 64Mb of RAM to 96Mb or 128Mb. But what really sets the Compaq apart from its corporate competition is the price. For instance, IBM's near-identically specified ThinkPad 570 (reviewed issue 58, p130) typically costs around £2,625. Add to this Compaq's three-year basic warranty and you have an extremely attractive package.
