A great value notebook, and powerful enough to run office applications on the move. But it's let down by poor battery life and minor build-quality problems.

So is the Acer a good buy? When it comes to raw power, the Acer's certainly not in the same league as a mobile powerhouse like the Dell Inspiron 8000 850UT (reviewed p161). But that's not the point. The Acer has a low-ticket price compared to its SpeedStep competitors, and you could buy two Acers for the price of the Dell and still have change. The TravelMate 200T is a great value proposition, and also fast enough to keep office applications happy and you working efficiently on the road. Only the limited battery life and minor screen niggles detract from what's otherwise a great bargain solution.
