Samsung R40

Verdict

Good performance, but build quality and screen are poor - only the excellent keyboard prevents a lower score.

Review Date: 15 Feb 2007

Price when reviewed: (£669 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
3 stars out of 6

The Samsung R40 undeniably gets the better of the Lenovo when it comes to out-and-out performance, and its dual core processor will make all the difference when it's pushed. However, it's important not to dismiss other, more tactile considerations, and it's here that the Lenovo is streets ahead - even if you may occasionally have to forgive its single-core processor. Add to this the Samsung's poor screen, with its narrow viewing angles and its annoying light leak, and we'd still advise stretching to the extra cost of the Lenovo if you possibly can. If you want a bargain notebook, the A List is still the place to look.
