Clickfree Traveler FL160 review

in SSDs

Verdict

Dear for its capacity, but the tiny size and ease of use compensate.

It's hard not to be tempted by a 16GB storage device the size - and approximate thickness - of a credit card, particularly if comes with a decent bit of backup software that you don't even need to install on your PC.

Plug the Clickfree into your PC using its integrated, if rather flimsy-feeling, USB cord, and it automatically loads its onboard backup software. Unprompted, it will scour your hard disk for files it might usefully back up.

At this point, of course, most people will find that it reports that it doesn't have sufficient space, as it wants to backup images, videos, and everything in your Documents folder, but the Automatic Backup software is flexible. You can choose to only back up spreadsheet files or Presentations, for instance, or to omit photographs and videos.

Alternatively, you can choose specific folders or even individual files. And, once you've backed up once, your folder choices are saved for next time, and backing up is incremental.

We timed the Clickfree at 21mins to backup 5.6GB of files, which is reasonable considering you'll only need to do a full backup once per PC. That and the decent onboard software makes this an excellent, if expensive, fire-and-forget tool for backing up crucial files. The fact that it fits in a wallet is a bonus.
