Sanyo digiCAM VPC-X300

Verdict

A well-built, well-designed digital camera with some interesting extra features, but the quality doesn't quite come up to the level of Kodak's DC210.

Review Date: 1 Apr 1998

Price when reviewed: (£823 inc VAT), street price £599 (£704 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

One thing the Sanyo digiCAM is better at than the DC210 is preserving its batteries. Throughout the whole reviewing process, and a considerable amount of time afterwards, the batteries still hadn't run out, even using the LCD most of the time. I went through two sets with the DC210.

Price-wise, the Sanyo digiCAM sits in the same range as both the Agfa ePhoto 1280 and the Kodak DC210, with a suggested retail price of £700 exc VAT and an estimated street price of £599. So despite the fact that it's a beautifully-designed and well-built piece of kit, and the quality is better than the ePhoto 1280, the fact that it can't quite match up to the level of detail captured by the DC210 means the Kodak retains its position on PC Pro's A List (see p68).
