Olympus Camedia C-800L

Verdict

A well-built and easy-to-use digital camera with very good image quality. But it doesn't come cheap, and there's no memory expansion capability.

Review Date: 1 Jun 1997

Price when reviewed: (£1,115 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

Primary camera power is from four AA alkaline batteries. My first set expired before I'd taken 30 photos. Admittedly, I'd been playing with the camera features, but even so battery life wasn't good. You can use AA NiCad and AA lithium batteries, but I'd advise buying the optional mains adaptor, especially to transfer images to computer.

The C-800L is an impressive device compared with most of the competition, and as I said earlier, it's the highest resolution sub-£1,000 camera currently available. That accolade won't not last long though, with Kodak's 1.3M pixel 1,280 « 960 resolution DCS-120 on the horizon and selling for a cheaper £899 (inc VAT).
