Hi-Grade Ultis Tachyon QX6700

Verdict

Incredible speed throughout thanks to the quad-core CPU, but there are better deals to be had

Review Date: 10 Nov 2006

Price when reviewed: (£2,149 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

The warranty is also cause for concern, as there's just one year's cover. Although it's on-site, for the better part of two grand we'd expect to have our hands held for at least two years. This goes doubly when you think about the premium components inside the Ultis: if the Raptor fails in 13 months' time, you'll be looking at a bill of £130, and the graphics card will set you back £300 too.

But the real issue is that the Ultis is far too close in price to Mesh's incredible Elite Extreme machine, which comes not only with a more future-ready GPU, but a very respectable 22in widescreen TFT for a mere £85 more.
