From around the web
Call mne a genius
But I'd have turned one of the fans the other way around and have them both blowing in the same direction. Have I missed something?
By 959ARN on 11 Apr 2011 ![]()
I can only think they did it because the fan would have blocked some of the memory slots, if it had placed the other way round?
By pbryanw on 12 Apr 2011 ![]()
once the memory is in there is sufficient clearance for the fan that side. just means if you want to upgrade or swap memory modules you have to unclip the fan but that is not difficult

Beware when you order (minor)...
Just ordered this from Palicomp. Added the LG monitor and case fans - added QJump (@£25) and delivery promised for Friday 25/05/2011...
Notes:
The BlueRay reader - nice but it can't write DVDs - you'll need to add one @£25
Logitech speakers are NOT in stock - they've replaced with generic - not too worried as I aready have 5.1 Creative set but no discount offered or option for them to remove them.
RAM - A 2x4GB kit from this m/board is available from Crucial for ~£70 - takes it up to 12GB. Pailcomp wanted an extra £80 to SWAP the 2x2GB for 2x4GB!

Update
Hi Richard,
There has been some misunderstanding on this order. This PC does in fact come with a Blu-Ray Combo drive, this reads Blu-Rays and also writes DVDs as well all in one drive. The £25 you have paid is to add an extra DVDRW underneath, so there are 2 drives in total. Very sorry for any confusion that was caused, and I will ensure that yor PC comes with a Blu-Ray Combo drive and a seperate DVDRW drive and I will get accounts to refund you £25, if you have any further issues please dont hesitate to get in touch with us on 01270 898104. Also Logitech speakers are in stock and will be coming with your order.

A silly question on overclocking
Can anyone enlighten me on the or side effects from overclocking, If a processor is designed to operate at 3.3GHz and it is overclocked to 4.5GHz surely there must be some "penalty" (or else why isn't its design speed 4.5GHz? So what effect will there be on system life, heat produced, noise etc?

Ordered one - somewhat changed but it's quick and quiet
I opted not to have the monitor (I have a 24in Dell - U2410) or speakers and to have a quieter/ better CPU cooling fan fitted by the company.
I also chose to have no operating system or HDD. I had a spare 1GB Samsung already and a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit that's been on the shelf but did want to do the setup myself.
Then, when I got the system here, I made a number of further changes including installing a Blu-ray burner instead of the Blu-ray reader (did a swap with what was in my then current PC); changing the graphics card to a Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X 1GB; and doubling the RAM to 8GB.
The case is a bit yucky (the disk-drive locks are especially dodgy) but I've only had two real issues so far. First, the company has still not sent me any kind of receipt (despite multiple emails from me) and the system is not able to keep the CPU cool enough at maximum auto overclocking if all four cores are running full tilt, say in encoding video. Temp goes up to about 97 deg - but I dropped back the overclock and the temp stays below 60.

Should have also said - delivery was amazingly speedy!
Sorry, should have also said - delivery was amazingly speedy - a couple of days as I recall, when the site was talking about 10 days.

Saddo comments to own again
Just found out why I didn't get any receipt - certain mail providers have got a block on the company's palicomp.co.uk email addresses, thinking it's sending out spam.
The receipt has just been sent again from a googlemail account and that got through just fine.
Oh, and the cooler fitted was an Arctic Freezer 13.

Customer service needs attention
I just placed an order for one of these PCs with the 24" monitor and fans.
They called me to say speakers not in stock (so refunded me £5.90) and recommended I take the £30 cooler upgrade. Annoying - why isn't the machine specced that way then? Also, I had put my mobile on as the main point of contact but they still called home, thus spoiling the surprise for my wife, who the machine is for. The guy on the phone apologised in a way that felt like he wasn't listening or escalating it to anyone. So that's why I am posting here.

A List - Really?
It beggars belief that you can A-List a system that has cooling/noise issues!

Works very well - but large case and a bit noisy
Like many people, I added the recommended two case fans to the package (among other mods). I've considered disconnecting one of both of them but haven't quite got round to it yet.
One other factor to consider is that the case is full-sized (I assume it has to be to accommodate the mother board) and pretty empty. That's not an issue for me, but it may be for others who have less room.
