Intel’s latest generation of processors (codenamed Sandy Bridge) has ushered in a new era of blistering performance, with the Core i7-2600K providing the best set of benchmark results we’ve ever seen. We’ve been eager to see how the chip performs in a full PC, and Yoyotech has beaten its rivals to the punch with the Fi7epower 4.8.

Of the four new processors, Yoyotech has employed the K edition of the Core i7-2600, taking advantage of its unlocked base clock to bump up the stock speed from 3.4GHz to 4.8GHz. And with Intel’s new improved Turbo Boost system in place, those impressive numbers should rise even further with the processor under load.

Predictably, the result is record-breaking performance. The Yoyotech’s overall score of 3.49 in PC Pro’s application-based benchmarks is the best we’ve seen by a colossal margin: the previous record-holder, the Palicomp Kinetic Hydro-X, scored "only" 2.91 with the help of its previous-generation Core i7 processor.

Yoyotech Fi7EPOWER 4.8

That’s enough power to sate power users for some time to come, and gamers will be similarly happy. An AMD Radeon HD 6970 – the company’s current flagship card – provides graphical grunt. A score of 44fps when we ran our Very High quality Crysis benchmark at 1,920 x 1,080 and with 4x anti-aliasing activated is a good result, but it’s beaten by the Chillblast Fusion Dimension, which scored 51fps thanks to its Nvidia GeForce GTX 580, and the Palicomp system, which extracted 69fps from its pair of Radeon HD 6850 cards.

Elsewhere, there’s 8GB of RAM, twice as much as we’re used to seeing in all but the most expensive of machines, and plenty of storage, courtesy of a 2TB hard disk; Yoyotech hasn’t found room in the budget for an SSD or Blu-ray drive.

Yoyotech has packaged this blistering power in a lovely looking chassis. The curvaceous BitFenix Survivor is a model we haven’t before seen in PC Pro Labs and, while its can’t compete in size with the likes of the NZXT Phantom or Cooler Master HAF X, it makes a good first impression thanks to a slick design and elegant, hard-wearing matte finish.

Removing the side panel is slightly tortuous – you have to unscrew the pair of curved ends on the rear of the system before using thumbscrews to remove the panel – but you’ll be glad you did. The black finish is carried over to the interior, and Yoyotech has employed a modular PSU to help create an extremely tidy system.

Just out of curiosity - what about the CPU temperature? Massive 4.8 GHz running on air cooling, after all.

By Lomskij on 14 Jan 2011

Temperatures

Hey Lomskij,

Apologies for omitting that crucial data from the review!

During our lengthy stress test, the CPU peaked at 81 degrees - a (just about) fine temperature, especially considering the overclock!

Thanks,

Mike

If only I had £1200 spare...

By longn on 14 Jan 2011

£1200 was the average price of a new PC 10 years ago, taking inflation and the performance increases into account this is pretty amazing for the money.

So, are you planning to change your benchmark machine anytime soon?

By pinero50 on 16 Jan 2011

Can this be bought for £999 exc VAT?

I have been on the yoyotech website trying to find this computer, they have this spec without the monitor or windows 7 for £958 exc VAT, when I add the monitor and win7 I get £1170 exc VAT - a lot higher than your review price and that is without choosing a keyboard or mouse.

By Geddy3001 on 16 Jan 2011

I cant find it either. I ran a search for Fi7epower and 3 pcs came up. None of them as cheap as that and none above 4Ghz

Fi7EPOWER availability

Hey,

Thanks to the numerous people who have pointed out that this machine isn't yet available on Yoyotech's website.

I've asked them a couple of times now if they can make the machine available ASAP, so I'm sure this specification will appear soon.

When it does, I'll post a link.

Thanks,

Mike

Fi7EPOWER availability

Thanks for the update Mike, its a little frustrating when your looking to replace your existing kit and read such a great review that you can't go onto the web site straight away and place an order, or at least check the spec etc(especially when you've been sitting on your hands waiting for the new Sandybridge processor).

And their web site isn't the best.

I thought PCPro check this stuff

I've been looking for this machine too but like others had been unable to locate it. It seems to be up now though. headline says 1Tb drive but specs say 2Tb.

I7 200GB 30" monitor for £5

How can a machine not available WHEN REVIEWED ever make the A list? We can all build top spec machines if we don't have to sell them at the quoted price

By SkidMarks on 19 Jan 2011

Fi7epower

Hey,

Thanks for all the comments about the availability of this machine and sorry that it's not been available.

I'm happy to say, though, that it's now available to buy on the Yoyotech website:

http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/item-detail.php?products
_id=4371265

Hopefully that's OK and happy computing :)

Cheers,

Mike

How much is that monitor upgrade?

"
Luckily, you’re able to customise the machine before you buy and, with a 24in Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS available for just £20 exc VAT more...."

I dont think so...that upgrade option on the Yoyotech site doesnt seem to be there...

By IPSWICHADAM on 20 Jan 2011

Please Call

Hi All

We appreciate all the comments and working hard to improve our site. At present site works from LIVE stock so if we run out of product it comes out of upgrade list also. If you like to make any changes and you do not see them on line please call us on 02076379021 we are here to help and design the PC to your requirement.

Yoyotech Web Site

Agreed, an awful web site - bad UI and many dead links. The reviewed machine still nowhere to be seen. This has me worried, they've had weeks and weeks to get this organised. One would assume that a smallish company would be champing at the bit to get a review follow up to run smoothly.
It has me worried that they've not up to it.

RE: Overclock

Hey EBear92,

Thanks for the kind words - glad that you enjoy the site and the reviews! The computer was overclocked when I tested Crysis - all of our benchmark tests were carried out under the same overclock, which didn't change from the moment the system arrived with me to when it was collected.

Cheers,

Mike

Overclock

Hi Mike, was the comp overclocked when recording the impressive performances under Crysis?

If yes, what is the performance of the clocked spec

Cheers, great site; looking into buying a new rig and your reviews are being infinitely helpful!

By EBear92 on 7 Feb 2011

RE: RE: Overclock

Thankyou for the speedy reply Mike, I can't find an option to overclock on the site, am I right in thinking that simply clicking the link you posted and ordering will get me the build with overclock from retailer?

Also, I believe you mentioned the temp running in just over 80 under stress, a few questions:

1) How long were the stress tests?
2) Would you recommend upgrading to a better case?

Cheers again!

By EBear92 on 7 Feb 2011

RE: Overclock

Hey EBear92,

If you look up the PC (available at http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/item-detail.php?products
_id=4371265) then it'll be automatically available with the overclock reviewed here, but if you're not sure then give Yoyotech a call and they'll be happy to help.

The stress tests were around an hour - not as long as the tests that all systems are put through by the manufacturer (these are typically 24h) but certainly long enough to run the CPU and GPU at 100% load and see them reach their peak temperatures: at that level of stress for that length of time, the major components reached a peak and stayed there.

I wouldn't change the case, though. While it's on the small side, it looks fantastic, is extremely hard-wearing, and is very neat inside, which is good for both airflow/cooling and future upgrade room. Yoyotech offers several alternatives on its website but, aside from some being larger, I can't see many of them offering better quality.

So unless having the extra room is critical to you, I'd stick with the BitFenix.

Cheers,

Mike

Due Dilligence?

Can you tell me whether you check the service levels provided by a company before their products make it on to the A-List?

Usually I find that sales teams are really responsive; it's usually the technical team that are harder to track down.

With that in mind, I'm really quite concerned that I can't get a response to an email sent to the sales team.

I generally chose which products to buy on the recommendations and ratings in PC Pro. However, in this I'm concerned that PC Pro may be recommending a product from a company that cannot cope with the demand a review in PC Pro create.

I'm ready to buy, money in hand. I just need someone to answer a couple of questions!
