Asus Eee Box B202 in Desktop PCs

Verdict

As slow and limited as a netbook, but without the portability. We can't see the Eee Box repeating the Eee PC's cross-over success

The Eee Box is still a very, very cheap PC, though, which will appeal to schools and libraries. For web browsing and basic word processing it's more than capable, and of course it can be added to existing monitors with ease - attaching it to the back of a screen is also a simple way of reducing the chances of it being damaged or fiddled with by wandering hands.

But will it appeal to most users? It's comfortably the cheapest desktop we've reviewed, but a quick look at Dell's website shows it's certainly not the cheapest out there. Amazingly, a Vostro 200 PC with a Pentium Dual-Core CPU, 2GB of RAM and an optical drive would actually cost you less than the Eee Box, and that's including Dell's rip-off shipping fees.

The Eee Box is also not the status symbol the first Eee PC was - you won't be able to whip it out on the train to show what a trend-setter you are. And when you consider you're getting all the disadvantages of the Eee PC (poor performance, no optical drive, small hard disk) without the main advantage (portability) we just can't see the Eee Box gaining the mainstream appeal of its laptop sibling.
