However, we wonder if Asus is trying to squeeze in a little too much. The amp can't compete with dedicated equipment for sound quality, and the price (although likely to fall when the A33 hits the streets) isn't low enough to make up for the shortcomings. The lack of a Blu-ray drive is an omission that's particularly hard to justify.

The A33 is still a good bet if you want media-centre features and are desperate to save space. Overall, however, it has a hard time competing with keener-priced, better-specified rivals.
