Systemax P1500RV Lifestyle 0370

Verdict

More expensive and not as well specified as competitors like Dell's Dimension 8100, plus the average 2D performance negates the point of such a machine.

Review Date: 1 Jan 2001

Price when reviewed: (£2,321 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

Looking back over the other Pentium 4 machines we've seen, it's clear that the Systemax wasn't one of the great performers, although to be fair it beat the machine most comparable to it in specification, namely the Dell Dimension 8100, scoring 3.10 to the Dell's 3.05 overall rating in the 2D benchmarks. What came across most forcefully, once again, was that the 1.2GHz Athlon-based NEC Direction A+ with its 266MHz DDR SDRAM was up at the same level as the fast, sophisticated Pentium 4s that cost a lot more. It looks like Intel has got some serious competition to deal with.
