Dell Precision 610 MT

Verdict

The fastest PC we've seen yet, but at a hefty price. Before we start recommending Xeon workstations, we'd like to see some more compelling performance results as well.

Review Date: 1 Jul 1998

Price when reviewed: (£6,441 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

So, if you're looking for a machine to combine the speed of a workstation and the functionality of a standard PC, the 610 MT is for you. However, for the best workstation-class performance in specialist 3D applications then an Alpha-based system still leads the field in sheer throughput. It's still early days for both the Xeon and the Precision 610 MT. As a general-purpose workstation it might be expensive, but it's in a class of its own.
