Apple iMac

Verdict

If you ignore the hype and forget your expectations, the iMac is capable, well-designed and easy to use. It's not for power users or serious business, but as a SoHo machine it's a step forward.

Review Date: 1 Oct 1998

Price when reviewed: (£999 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

As amazing as this might have seemed a year ago, I expect there'll be many first-time buyers who'll find Apple's latest effort irresistible. In terms of producing a consumer-level PC that's quick to set up and easy to use, not to mention carefully designed, it stands out on its own. The average PC Pro reader might not care for the iMac, but there are people who just want a simple machine that works unobtrusively and does what they ask it to, and on that note the iMac is a very capable purchase.
