HP xw9400

Verdict

A solid and reliable machine, but performance isn't as high as its workstation label might suggest

Review Date: 15 Dec 2006

Price when reviewed: (£3,290 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

In terms of the price-performance ratio, the advent of Core 2, Core 2 Quad and the Woodcrest-based Xeon CPUs has shifted the ground significantly; it's now hard to recommend an Opteron-based system purely on performance. But if speed is only one parameter in a business equation that includes ISV certification, a three-year international next-day on-site warranty, a proven platform and the ability to tell your clients you're running a Tier 1 workstation, the xw9400 range still has an awful lot going for it.
