XFX GeForce 8400 GS

Verdict

Review Date: 10 Oct 2007

Price when reviewed: (£30 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

What is it with graphics card manufacturers and unrealistic performance claims? Last month, PNY with an 8400 GS (web ID: 125289) claimed "screaming gaming performance", despite managing only low scores in our benchmarks; and now, XFX claims its passively cooled version of Nvidia's low-end chip offers "unparalleled" gaming performance. With scores of 18fps in Call of Duty 2 and 9fps in Call of Juarez, both at their lowest settings, the XFX GeForce 8400 GS (part code PV-T86S-WAHG) is never going to impress gamers in the real world, but there are still plenty of reasons to consider this card. It's silent and cheaper than last month's PNY. The DVI port is HDCP enabled, making the card a strong choice for a media-centre PC. Just don't expect to do any screaming gaming.
