Sony MRW62E-S1

Verdict

Review Date: 13 Aug 2007

Price when reviewed: (£20 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

Sony's new media card reader can read and write to 17 types of media card including all types of Memory Stick, CompactFlash I/II, Microdrives, xD-Picture cards, Smart Media and, of course, SD/MMC cards. It connects to your computer through a mini-USB cable and the drive names show up with their respective media types, which is handy. At this price, you'd expect top-notch performance, and we weren't disappointed. Using a Lexar Professional 133x SD card in a generic card reader, we saw an average write speed of 5MB/sec, which the Sony boosted to 7.3MB/sec. Likewise, the read speed went from 8.1MB/sec with the generic card reader to 10.4MB/sec with the Sony, making this a great choice if speed is a priority.
