Just 12mm thick and 85mm on a side, the FHD-XS is very small indeed for a 20GB portable storage device. With its low-power 1.8in internal hard disk, it can be used with any USB port - it worked fine with every laptop and desktop PC we tried.
The design alleviates the usual problem associated with carrying around external hard disks - the need for separate cables. The drive's USB connector is integrated into the case, pivoting out for connection. Give it a tug and a short length of cable appears, making it even easier to plug in, although we have concerns about this eventually chafing or breaking internally.
Performance over the USB 2 interface is fine; a tough test involving writing more than 8,200 files totalling 1.85GB was completed in 5 minutes, 28 seconds, giving a respectable overall transfer rate of 5.8MB/sec.
