Etymotic is well known for its noise-isolating earphones, but the ety8s are its first foray into the world of wireless sound. The drawback is obvious - pop the ety8s in and you'll swiftly become the subject of curious stares and pointing children. Each headphone measures 20 x 35mm (W x H), which is decidedly boxy for something sticking out of the side of your head. A Bluetooth transmitter for iPods is optional, and audio quality is good, even if it doesn't measure up to Etymotic's cheaper ER6 Isolators (web ID: 96232). There are also a few usability worries - you won't be allowed to use the ety8s on a plane, for example, and, although they fit snugly in the ear to be used while walking, we wouldn't use them on a treadmill. Only for those desperate to get rid of their cables. By Dave Stevenson |
