The Nintendo Wii has a lot to answer for. Not content with blowing Sony's best efforts out of the water, the Wiimote is now responsible for ushering in a new era of gesture-based computing. Lift the space-age MX Air off the desk and the Freespace technology takes off. The mouse pointer reacts to your movements, which sounds clumsy but works exceptionally well, particularly for 10ft interfaces such as Media Center. It also provides gesture controls - hold down VOL and move the mouse left or right to adjust the volume, or hold the play button and flick left or right to skip tracks. For desktop use, the MX is a little too light and too unresponsive to make spreadsheets particularly comfortable, but if you have a media-centre PC in your living room this is a great companion.
