It's actually quite hard to truly escape Internet Explorer or Firefox, because many alternative browsers just wrap a different user interface around the same rendering engines that drive the market leaders.

The other major player when it comes to Mozilla-based browsers is K-Meleon, which goes for the cut-down approach. It's fast, both to load and to render pages, as well as being standards compliant. But the mimicking of the IE MFC (Microsoft Foundation Class) interface might put off open-source fans. As well as IE Favorites, you can use Firefox bookmarks or an Opera hotlist, and keyboard shortcuts abound. But overall, configuration is tricky and it feels like taking a step back in usability terms.
