There are many references to Ruby and Ruby on Rails on the Web, but if you're serious about learning the language we recommend you buy Programming Ruby (by Dave Thomas) and Agile Web Development With Rails (again by Dave Thomas), both published by Pragmatic Bookshelf. The former is the definitive language guide, the latter a good readable tutorial and reference work for Rails. Ruby on Rails is being hyped more than perhaps it should be right now, but behind all the sizzle is a decent amount of steak, and it's well worth checking out.
