Treo testimonials

Mark Needham listens to praise for the Treo before heading off on holiday with his iPAQ 2210 and TomTom Navigator
'I read your response to Colin Bailey with interest, and also noted that he uses a 6310i. We have a number of these in service and I'd note that using Bluetooth with these has been problematic; the 6310i used to be completely unsupported for Bluetooth connection via any other adaptor than Nokia's own (the somewhat ludicrously priced DTL-4), which they helpfully stopped distributing. You had to do some legwork to discover that the same product was provided cheaper by Socket (see www.socketcom.com/product/bluetooth.asp for details).
'With version 5.5 or later of the firmware, the phone can talk to other Bluetooth adaptors (we use them with the built-in Bluetooth in the Dell Latitude D600s) but they require, let's say, some encouragement. The same adaptors will happily chatter to SE T610s and T630s and the like, and with other phones and devices. I'd therefore be careful before picking on poor old BenQ, as the company is probably doing the best that it can.
'The end user can check the version of firmware on their phone by entering *#0000# on the keypad. If it's 5.5 or later, you're in with a chance - if not, then dabs.com does the Socket card for £79.99 inc VAT. Ouch. Thanks Socket, thanks Nokia...'
Thanks to Nick, and also to Andrew J Dibbins, a technical consultant, who has improved my use of Outlook. A month or so back I complained that when I used a Windows Smartphone, it didn't dial numbers in the format +44 (0)161 905 8112. Andy suggested saving numbers as +44 161 905 8112, in which case it will work from a mobile in the UK or abroad.
