Security vendors face Microsoft tipping point

Sophos's senior technology consultant Graham Cluley took a more pragmatic outlook: 'Well, a challenge for MS is that there's a big chance that malware authors will test their new creations to see if it can get past MS's engine, especially as many consumers may have plumped for it.
'So I think it's quite likely that customers will be cautious of putting too many of their corporate eggs in that basket and seek additional anti-virus engines.
'I guess it's up to us vendors to do the best job we can in detection, responsiveness, service etc to ensure that we're the engine customers want to plug in. In my experience corporates aren't always in awe of the free or cheapest option, especially when it comes to security.'
