Sony Pictures has warned users to watch for phishing scams, as it acknowledged the latest hacking attack to hit the company.

Sony has been the target of repeated attacks after its PlayStation Network was hacked in April.

Last week, hacking group Lulz Security targeted its entertainment division Sony Pictures, posting 37,500 records of users online.

Nearly a week later, Sony Pictures has acknowledged the hack, and warned users not to fall for phishing scams.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will not contact you by email or otherwise to ask for your credit card number or social security number

"For your security, we encourage you to be aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information," it said in a statement.

"Sony Pictures Entertainment will not contact you by email or otherwise to ask for your credit card number or social security number," it added. "If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony Pictures Entertainment is not the entity asking."

Sony Pictures said no credit card details had been taken, as it doesn't collect them from users.

"We believe that one or more unauthorised persons may have obtained some or all of the following information that you may have provided to us in connection with certain promotions or sweepstakes: name, address, email address, telephone number, gender, date of birth, and website password and user name," the statement said.

Sony Pictures said it had brought in external experts to investigate the attack, and was working with the FBI to catch the hackers.

Sony do it again....

Why wait a week before informing affected users? Did they learn nothing from the previous attacks? Another example of why laws need to be tightened on data security and punishments for breaches made harsher
