Trend Micro reverses router security rip-off

Trend Micro has dropped the price of its new router security software - just a day after PC Pro highlighted its rip-off Britain price.
The company yesterday unveiled its Home Network Defender software, which claims to protect all the devices on a home network by installing security software on the router.
But while US subscribers were offered the software for $60 a year - around £42 at the current exchange rate - Trend Micro set the price at £64.95 for British buyers.
Asked to explain why British buyers were being charged more than £20 more than those in the US, the company took nearly a day to get back to us, before finally declaring that the price was a mistake.
"It would seem this was an error in the [press] release which wasn't picked up by anyone before it was distributed," a spokesperson for Trend Micro claims. "The price has always been £49.95."
Given that Home Network Defender also includes four licenses for Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware, the package is suddenly looking much better value.
