The list, unearthed by Neowin, contains the top 61 features requested by users participating in Microsoft's Early Feedback program, which collects suggestions for the next itineration of its perennial operating system.

However a tabbed Windows Explorer seems a natural extension of the improvements already found in Internet Explorer, while stopping Windows from spinning up the CD drive every time a user opens the drive list would make life slightly less irritating.
A built-in video and audio codec manager would also bring a smile to a fair few faces.
Quite how many of these features are currently under consideration Microsoft would not confirm, with a company spokesperson saying only,
"As a company, we're always exploring new ways to innovate Windows, using customer feedback as a guide. We have no new information to share on future versions of the operating system at this time."
