Disney pays $7.4bn for Pixar 10:55AM, Wednesday 25th January 2006
Walt Disney has agreed to pay $7.4bn in stock to aquire Pixar Animation.

As we reported yesterday Pixar CEO Steve Jobs will join Disney's board of directors while his colleague John Lasseter becomes chief creative officer of the animation studios.

The deal makes Jobs - already one of the most powerful entertainment industry figures as CEO of Apple - into a major Hollywood player and establishes Apple and Disney's position at the forefront of the move to digital content delivery.

As if to emphasise the point, new Disney content went on sale at the iTunes video store as the takeover deal was being finalised.
