Samsung invests for Flash memory lead 12:49PM, Monday 21st November 2005
Samsung is to invest $614.2m in the production of Flash memory and DRAM chips.

The worlds largest memory chip maker said that the investment would help is stay ahead of competitors and the new production lines will begin operating in the second half of 2006.

Samsung expects lower prices for NAND Flash memory to boost demand. The chips are used predominantly in mobile devices such as MP3 players - famously the iPod nano - phones and cameras.

Samsung is reported to have agreed to supply Apple with a large part of its Flash memory output for use in iPods.

The company expects revenues from chip sales to increase to $61bn in 2012, more than three times the figure for 2004, with much of the growth coming from China.
