Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for its enterprise-scale SQL Server 2005 database system.
The major feature of the update is support for database mirroring, to better ensure system availability. This adds to existing tools such as clustering, database snapshots, snapshot isolation and log shipping.
SP1 also includes SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) support for enterprise reporting on SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence. This comprises two components: a Microsoft .NET Data provider for feeding the data in to the SAP system and a new MDX Query Designer for manipulating and reporting that data.
There is also an update to the free SQL Server 2005 Express Edition which now boasts SSRS functions, full text searches and a management console in the form of SQL Server Management Studio Express.
