Borland's Enterprise Studio for Java comes Together

Following on from JBuilder X - unveiled at the end of autumn - comes Borland's Enterprise Studio 7 for Java.

This brings all Borland's application lifecycle management tools together under one umbrella, including design, deployment and requirement analysis tools. The idea is to encourage good practice for developers. This means, for example, helping to document and maintain user requirements - 'maintaining the customer's voice in the code', as opposed to coders diluting original aims with their own focus.

'With this release Borland is pulling down the brick walls that separate developers from other areas of the project,' said Pete Derry, solutions architect manager at Borland UK, for example citing the potential separation of the development team from the QA testing department.

As well as including JBuilder X, Enterprise Studio for Java includes further support for handling Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs), a range of code metric and audits (for example, the levels of inheritance in code, or detailing ways of instantiation) and automated application server deployments.

The product also includes the Together modelling system, LiveSource, with its support for UML diagramming. It works directly from source code to guarantee a current view of a project and provide an automatic form of documentation.

Borland Enterprise Studio 7 for Java should be shipping before the end of the year. UK pricing is £4,350 for new users, with upgrades from JBuilder X Enterprise available for £2,350. For more information about the product, see www.borland.com/estudiojava/.
