New notebook offerings are announced by both Dell and HP.

Dell has updated its Latitude range with the ultraportable D400 (pictured). It features full Centrino certification (a Pentium M processor with Intel's PRO/Wireless 2100 support for 802.11b), with Dell's 802.11g-based system - TrueMobile - available as an option.

Its spec includes a 12.1in XGA display (1,024 x 768), up to 2.0Gb of DDR SDRAM and hard drives up to 60Gb.

Weighing 3.7 lbs, the D400 includes Dell's new D/Bay, an external modular bay that supports - via a powered USB 2.0 port - the use of an additional hard drive, floppy drive or optical drive. You can find more info at dell.co.uk/latitude

Pricing starts from £1372.

Meanwhile, HP has announced a series of new HP Compaq Business Notebooks, the nx9010, nx9005 and the nx9000. The nx9000 series is aimed at small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to provide - in HP's words - a balance of performance and connectivity.

The nx9010 is a desktop replacement model, featuring a 15 inch XGA screen, Pentium 4 or Celeron processors, and ATI Mobility Radeon graphics support. By contrast, the nx9005 is described as a 'value' notebook and is based on AMD mobile Athlon XP-M processors. The nx9000 is aimed at road warriors and carries more connectivity options within a smaller frame. It runs on an Intel mobile Pentium 4-M and includes wireless LAN support (802.11b). You can read fuller details of the specs at hp.com.

Pricing for the nx9000 starts from £919, the nx905 starts from £635 and the nx9010 costs £. All prices are excluding VAT.
