Sony features Centrino in new business notebooks

Sony joins the Centrino trail with its two new business notebooks, the PCG-Z1SP and PCG-Z1MP.

Both models have a 14.1-inch SXGA+ display (a resolution) of 1,400 x 1,050. Inside the magnesium casing, are the Centrino components: a Pentium-M processor, an Intel 855 chipset and the Intel PRO/Wireless network connection, which supports 802.11b. The Z1SP's processor operates at 1.5GHz and the PCG-Z1MP (pictured) at 1.3GHz.

The Z1SP has a 60Gb hard disk and 512Mb of DDR SDRAM, while the Z1MP has a 40Gb drive and 256Mb of memory. Both come with an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chip (with 16 MB RAM).

In terms of connectivity, there is an i.LINK/FireWire (IEEE1394) interface, a Magic Gate Memory Stick slot, a built-in V.90/56K modem, two USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet port. Bundled software includes, Adobe Premiere 6.0 LE, Photoshop Elements 2.0, Acrobat Reader (EULA version 5.1) and Norton Antivirus 2003, as well as Sony multimedia applications. They both run Windows XP Professional.

The models will be available from the end of March, and the suggested retail price of the PCG-Z1SP is £1701 (excluding VAT). The price of the PCG-Z1MP is not yet confirmed. They come with a one-year guarantee.
