Microsoft is planning to offer buyers of Office 2007 a free upgrade to Office 2010, according to a leaked blog post.
The company regularly offers customers free upgrades in the run up to the release of a new version of Windows or Office, although this time the details appear to have leaked a little sooner than Microsoft hoped.
A blog post issued by Microsoft employee Charles Van Heusen spilled details of the offer, before being quickly taken down. However, the Office 2010 upgrade post is still lodged in Google's cache.
Try Office 2010 for free!
Buy this month's PC Pro for our comprehensive guide to Office 2010 and a free trial of the beta software on the DVDIt claims that anyone who buys a "qualifying Office 2007 product (with or without a new PC) from an authorised reseller" between 5 March and 30 September will be able to download Office 2010 for free. Customers can also order the software on DVDs for a small additional charge.
Upgrades are offered on a like-for-like basis, although due to the reshuffle of the Office line-up, buyers of Office 2007 Standard will be offered Office Home and Business 2010, while Office Small Business 2007 buyers will be upgraded to Office Professional 2010.
There's a limit of 25 free upgrades per person.
Microsoft was unavailable for comment on the upgrade offer at the time of publication.

Clang...
Anyone hear that? It's the sound of Office sales dropping of a cliff for a month...

This is great news for someone like me, who was thinking of buying the student edition of 2007.
Hopefully if true, this news means I can put my purchase off till March 5th then get upgraded to Office 2010 at a later date. Great!

Hi
I already have full version of 2007 and have been using trial 2010 for some time. Presume I can get upgrade version of 2007 Small Business (£185 from Amazon) and then upgrade when 201o comes out?
