Microsoft has delayed the release of Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4, as it works on niggling performance issues.

Microsoft slated the products for release on 22 March, 2010, however, the company says it has pushed that date back by "a few weeks" to make way for a release candidate in February.

The RC is intended to test whether the team's work on improving the performance of the second beta has been successful.

"As you may have seen, we significantly improved performance between Beta 1 and Beta 2," Sosa Somasegar, senior vice president of Microsoft's Developer Division, wrote in a blog post.

"With these improvements in the product, we do want to make sure that they truly address the performance issues while continuing to maintain a high quality bar.

"As a result, we are going to extend the beta period by adding another interim checkpoint release, a Release Candidate with a broad 'go live' license, which will be publicly available in the February 2010 timeframe," he adds.
