Network Telecom Europe 2002: Mutiny on the network

UK company Mutiny has partnered with Toshiba to provide a network monitoring device.

Described as a 'plug and ping' 24x7 system, the sub-£10,000 network-monitoring appliance is designed to be a simple low-cost system for minimising network downtimes.

With Mutiny's software designed to be run on the new Toshiba Magnia SG20 mini-server (which is about the size of a set-top box), the system provides real time graphical displays and reports of network hardware and application status. Potential problems or service failures can be reported instantly to operators via email or SMS messages.

Revelling in the moniker Toshiba Network Monitor with Mutiny on Board, the system comes with a Web interface enabling full remote access. The system is preloaded onto the Toshiba servers (a Toshiba Magnia Z300 is recommended for larger networks of over 500 nodes).

The software runs on Red Hat Linux 7.2 with the Web interface based on Internet Explorer (v5.5/v6.0). Minimum set-up time for installation and configuration is estimated to be four hours.
