Kaspersky launches small business packs

Posted on 26 Sep 2008 at 09:14

Kaspersky has launched a new security package designed to address the ever-changing needs of small businesses.

The company's Small Office Security pack offers cover for five PCs and one file server for £200. Five additional seats can be added as the business grows for a further £120, with the optional expansion pack.

"Small offices don't know how fast they're growing," the company's co-founder and CEO, Eugene Kaspersky, told PC Pro. "We have to be more flexible, to let them have more licences as they grow."

Kaspersky says the package is designed for companies with limited IT expertise, that don't have a dedicated security appliance. "They [small businesses] don't need a full enterprise system," said David Emms, the security firm's senior technology consultant. "They need something that's straightforward to look after."

The Small Office pack doesn't include support for a mail server, with Kaspersky defending the omission with the claim that such hardware is normally only deployed in businesses with 15 or more users.

Small Office Security and the expansion pack will be sold through PC World retail stores, as well as directly from the company's online store later this week.
