PlusNet offers refunds for network slowdown

Posted on 27 Feb 2007 at 12:06

PlusNet is offering certain Broadband Plus customers a refund on their February subscription charge if they can provide evidence of problems with their service's performance.

In an email to customers, the ISP acknowledged that a readjustment to the amount peak time network capacity resulted in slower than acceptable speeds.

It explained that Broadband Plus pays for approximately an 18 per cent share of its network at peak times, but during December and January it was taking around 15 per cent, which was affecting Premier and PAYG customers.

'We re-balanced our platform and updated our automated rules at the beginning of February to ensure that Plus got about 18 per cent at peak times which solved the Premier & PAYG gold drops but caused slower than acceptable speeds for some Plus customers,' the email says.

PlusNet has since activated two additional 155Mbps segments of BT Central capacity that will solve the problem of a shortage of available sessions.

Broadband Plus subscribers can discover if they meet the refund criteria by using the online tool art Help Assistant path plus.net/go.html/plusrefund. Claims must be made by 16 March 2007.
