PolyVision débuts whiteboard with sound

PolyVision eno play

Interactive whiteboard specialist PolyVision claims its latest educational product, the eno play - revealed today at BETT - turns the whiteboard into a soundboard.

From the front, the play looks like a standard interactive whiteboard, using a Bluetooth USB transceiver to communicate with a laptop or PC. The image comes from an ultra-short-throw projector, and special interactive pens allow up to three users to interact with the whiteboard at a time.

However, an exciter on the back of the eno play also enables the whiteboard surface to be used as a giant flat-panel speaker. Though listening conditions at BETT are hardly conducive to a proper evaluation, sound quality appears impressive. The built-in amplifier produces a maximum 20W per channel, which should be more than enough for school use.

According to PolyVision, the eno play is a perfect way to reach the 30% of students who learn primarily through sound, and will do a better job of engaging other learners.

“By integrating high quality sound in such a way, teachers are able to connect with every type of learner, whether auditory, kinaesthetic or visual,” promised general manager, Rob Heitmeier.

The eno play is available as a package with an eno classic interactive whiteboard, or as a retrofit for existing users at approximately £300 exc. VAT.

Alternatively, plug in a pair of speakers?

You will not reach 30% of students by buying louder speakers.

This is purely a company that has seen an angle and that's great for them but schools should hesitate.
