Telewest Broadband has begun increasing the connection speeds of its customers by a third today.
The project should take until January to complete and will see its 3Mbit service boosted to 4Mbit, its 1.5Mbit service increased to 2Mbit, and the 750Kbit service pushed to 1Mbit/sec. Prices will remain the same with monthly charges of £50, £35 and £25 respectively.
The 256Kbit service remains unchanged.
Eric Tveter, president and chief operating officer at Telewest Broadband, said: 'This will be the second time this year we have increased the speed of our blueyonder broadband services, doubling the original bandwidth with no increased costs and no introduction of caps.
'This isn't a short-term offer and there are no catches - we're simply giving broadband users what they want, thanks to our advanced cable network.'
NTL also recently lifted its broadband speeds for businesses and the companies are expected to bring their services and tariffs in line in expectation of a merger as early as next year.
