BT adds 1.2m more homes to fibre rollout

BT has named another 99 exchanges to be enabled for fibre as part of its network upgrades, and said it will start infilling areas that were previously not seen as commercially viable for fibre.
For homes to receive the most commonly-deployed BT fibre product – fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) – both the local exchange and street-side cabinet need to be connected, but cabinets with relatively few homes have previously been passed by.
The issue has led to consumer frustration because they are told their area is ready for fibre, but they cannot actually receive a service.
In some areas there are cabinets that missed out the first time around that are now seen as being ready to infill
BT has now started to infill some of those exchanges, claiming the latest exchange and cabinet upgrades will increase the number of homes able to receive broadband by 1.2m.
"There are 600,000 new homes added with the new exchanges announced today," a spokesperson told PC Pro.
"There are a further 600,000 homes that will be able to receive fibre in areas that have already been announced and had the exchanges upgraded, because in some areas there are cabinets that missed out the first time around that are now seen as being ready to infill."
Click here for the full list of the exchanges being upgraded – from Allestree Park in the East Midlands to Yapton in the South East - but we are waiting to confirm where potential customers can find out if their cabinet is due for a belated upgrade.
This information is next to useless
Since BT never make available details of which areas within an exchange will get FTTC.

Grimsby's on the list - get in there! Apologies to all the other people waiting for Fibre, but being located in the back of beyond here, it's nice that this is happening - hopefully soon(ish) too.

I'll not hold my breath....
Our local exchange was one of the very first to be Infinity enabled so great excitement in our household as we could finally move from circa 2Mpbs to something faster - a great boon to our web development and video/photo business.
Needless to say our cabinet was one of the untold many that have been left behind.
Message to BT - if you are going to publish lists of exchanges to be upgraded at least manage customer expectations by listing either the cabinets to be included or, alternatively, the cabinets to be omitted.

More BT Lies
After reading this I thought I'd check the roll out date on my local exchange was still March 31. What a surprise it's been pushed back to June now.
This is the fourth time I've seen the date changed since it was announced a year and a half ago.
BT are just using the whole thing as a carrot and stick trick to get idiots like me to switch to BT and shame on me I fell for it.

Can't agree more with Rikkif. Our exchange (Fareham) was scheduled for go live on 31st December 2012, then it was pushed back to 31st March. I've just looked and it's now been pushed back again to 30th June (this has been done in the last couple of days). It's a total joke and BT, Openreach or whoever should be more open and honest with their customers, instead of raising expectations and then dashing them again and again.

That's odd
Not sure why this added my post again?
Please feel free to delete the duplicate.

@Rikkif
It happens when you refresh the screen to see if your post has appeared yet.
It's been like this ever since they introduced the pointless delay.
It's really quite laughable that a PC magazine can't even sort out their own website.
