Orange bundles home and mobile broadband for £20

Orange has thrown down the gauntlet to the mobile broadband providers, by bundling home and mobile connections together for only £20 per month.
The deal sees customers offered an up to 8Mb/sec ADSL broadband connection, with free wireless router and evening and weekend calls on the landline side; whilst on the mobile front customers are given an up to 3.6Mb/sec connection with a 3GB monthly download allowance and free USB dongle.
There are, inevitably, a couple of catches. The offer's only open to people in Orange's Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) areas, and they have to sign an 18-month contract.
The move may force other mobile broadband providers to reconsider their prices. Vodafone and O2 for example, charge customers £15 a month for just the mobile broadband with a 3GB download cap.
"We believe these new offers not only complement our existing fixed and mobile broadband service range, but also provide flexible alternatives to meet the needs of today's 21st century customer - who quite rightly demands a premium service at the same time as best value for money," claims Orange's director of broadband and home, Asif Aziz.
However, there may be an element of getting what you pay for with the Orange deal. Orange was one of the weaker performers in our recent round-up of mobile broadband services. It also faired poorly in this year's PC Pro award for broadband ISPs.
