Internet's oldest star retires
Posted on 7 Mar 2001 at 13:01
The world's oldest Internet star isn't some Texan porn queen, but a humble coffee pot located in Cambridge University.
A web camera has been trained on this bearer of beverages for a decade and now the site is closing down.
Computer scientists at the university were so sick of climbing the stairs to get a cup of coffee only to find the pot empty that they decided to install a web camera, build a web site and stop any wasted journeys. During its heyday, the coffee pot attracted up to 2.4 million viewers but now there is no more need for the coffee pot or the web cam, as the computer department is moving.
