Nokia unveils N810 internet tablet

Posted on 18 Oct 2007 at 10:02

Nokia has officially unveiled its N810 internet tablet, the next step in its attempt to diverge from its traditional mobile phone business.

The N810, which follows in the footsteps of the N800, forsakes traditional mobile phone capability in favour of a greater focus on the internet and is being targeted at heavy users of Skype, social networking sites and Google.

The tablet features a 4.1 inch, 800 x 480 pixel screen, built-in maps, and integrated GPS receiver, as well as Google email and instant messaging clients. It will also come with 2GB internal storage, upgradeable through miniSD and microSD memory cards to 10GB which Nokia claims is enough to hold 7,500 songs.

So far, so iPod touch, however the N810 does have one notable difference in that it sports a range of input options, including a touch screen, stylus and slide out keyboard for all those still not sold on the multi-touch concept.

The device is powered Nokia's Linux maemo platform and will come bundled with Ajax and Flash 9, which should make browsing the internet slightly less of a headache.

Nokia literature claims a battery life of around four hours in continuous usage, music playback of 10 hours and standby time of 14 days.

UK pricing and launch details are expected later today.
