Dell delivers AMD-based Inspiron 1501

Posted on 7 Nov 2006 at 16:37

Hot on the heels of news that Dell has teamed up with AMD to deliver a business-oriented Latitude notebook, the computer giant has mirrored its actions for the consumer and small business arena.

The Inspiron 1501, which comes in a silver and white coat, comes with up to 2GB of shared DDR2 memory and a hard drive with up to 80GB storage capacity.

It is the first entry-level notebook to feature a standard three-in-one media card to enable users to more easily transfer their MP3 or photos digitally from their original location.

Dell also boasts another first by finessing the notebook's 15.4in widescreen, which adds almost a third (30 per cent) to a user's viewable area, display with True Life technology.

Users can choose which AMD processor-based Inspiron 1501 they go for. There are three processor options available: The AMD Sempron, AMD Turion 64 or AMD Turion 64 X2 series.

For film, music and gaming enthusiast, the new ATI graphics card is likely to please.

'The technology upgrades and options designed into the Inspiron 1501 illustrate Dell's commitment to listening to its customers and developing the mobile products they need - focusing on improving both entertainment and productivity capabilities, whilst maintaining value,' said Hervé Mattan, marketing director for Dell's Home and Small Business division.

Pricing for the new notebook, which is capable of running Microsoft Windows Vista, varies depending on which AMD processor has been selected.

The AMD Sempron notebook starts at £399, while the Turion 64 X2 dual core processor version costs £509. Both prices include VAT and delivery charges.
