Pipex buys Bulldog's broadband customer base 12:01PM, Thursday 7th September 2006
Pipex has announced that it is to pay Cable & Wireless £12m for Bulldog's 110,000 residential and small business broadband customers.

C&W announced in June that it was pulling out of the retail broadband business to focus on its LLU-based wholesale business. In a deal separate to the customer acquisition, Pipex has signed up to add this network of 800 exchanges to its own LLU installations.

brings further scale to the Pipex Group and we are delighted to welcome all the Bulldog customers,' said Pipex chairman Peter Dubens. 'Cable & Wireless is a good addition to our supplier mix and going forward this relationship will add breadth to the choice of services that we are able to offer to all of our customers.'

Pipex has also acquired Toucan, a provider of voice, mobile and broadband to 185,000 users.

Dubens said that Pipex hopes to replicate Toucan's high levels of customer service in Ireland across the whole of the expanded Pipex operation.

'Importantly, this acquisition will enable Pipex to provide triple play in the UK market by the end of 2007,' he said. 'Broadband, voice and mobile will be bundled and offered to our entire base in the coming months.'

The acquisition of both Bulldog's and Toucan's subscribers raises the total number of Pipex's broadband users above 500,000 out of a total customer base of 1.14 million.
